The Sacred: The Weight of What Remains is an ongoing collection that focuses on my foremothers and the objects I have inherited from them. Working primarily with collage and assemblage, I combine photographs, letters, and found materials to examine the ways personal histories are preserved, fragmented, and passed from one generation to the next. Through these layered materials, I explore generational inheritance, memory, and the knowledge that has been shared from mother to daughter. By bringing these images and stories into public view, the weight is lifted from my shoulders and offered to the community, where memory can be held collectively rather than privately. In this way, these women are remembered and honored for future generations.
